Question Description

Please visit the links below and consider the concept of self-compassion as the new concept of self-esteem. This new concept stems from Buddhist philosophy which considers feelings of personal inadequacy and suffering as something we all go through, and which emphasizes the importance of viewing oneself and others with compassion, particularly during difficult or stressful periods. This philosophy stands in direct contrast to the notion of eliminating all feelings of low self-esteem and setting perfectionistic or idealistic standards for ourselves.
